So you've just spent your hard earned money on a new cricket bat and you decide to go straight down the nets to see how good (fingers crossed) it is. DONT!
 Every bat must be knocked-in well before even thinking about hitting a ball with it,
 
This service includes
 
Oiling the bat whilst being careful not to over oil as this can be disastrous.
Lightly sanding the bat between each coat of oil.
Bone the edges of the bat to help prevent nasty splits although cracking can still happen, however  boning the edges can reduce the risk.
Then we use a Bat mallet to start hitting the face, edges and down near the toe of the bat in a controlled manner starting gradual and getting firmer over time.
Only through experiance will we know how much Knocking-in is needed on your bat before you can then and only then begin the gentle throw down period before finally being able to use in a game.
The bat will also be fitted with a Antiscuff sheet and tape down the edges.
